Program Notes
I composed Basswood from my experience playing as both a featured and non-featured percussionist in recitals. While the solo marimba is the driving force behind the music, the unique tambourine part and short solos in the conga and vibraphone offer a chance for other talented players to be featured.
The 7-minute duration, compact instrument set-up, and option to play on a 4.3 or 5 octave marimba offers percussionists a unique piece of repertoire when programming for their recital or percussion ensemble concert.
