Program Notes
Wind in the Aspens is an exciting, rhythmically charged work. The music mirrors the unpredictable swells of wind that ripple through aspen trees, setting their distinctive leaves into motion.
Built around a consistent pulse, the piece explores dynamic contrast, layered textures, and rhythmic interplay — including an unexpected 15/16 measure that keeps both performers and listeners on edge. The result is a concise, colorful celebration of motion and vitality, ideal for ensembles seeking a fresh, modern addition to their repertoire.
This piece was commissioned and premiered by Mr. Aaron Herman and the Fossil Ridge High School Wind Ensemble in Fort Collins, CO.
